On today’s show:
Unscientific American continues to erode its reputation. The magazine says that questioning or criticizing proven protocols to treat mental illness will open the door to unproven treatment methods, suggesting there are proven methods that work. But they don’t! Turns out Unscientific American admitted that science journalists have an obligation to determine what is true and what is a lie. Eek! That’s not science.
Elon Musk sends a “what did you do last week” email to federal employees to provide five bullets of what they had accomplished the prior week. This move is just another action that continues to ruffle feathers because no one understands why he’s moving so fast. But who expected him to work slow? He tends to accomplish what people do in a year, in only four months. It has always been in his DNA to work 80 to 100 hour workweeks to achieve twice as much or more than the average person. It’s no wonder no one can understand what he’s doing.
Big balls vs strap-on dildos? Which one is most tawdry? Famous race-baiter Joy Reid was fired from MSNBC - a kind of curious move because it seems there’s still a lot of race-baiting going on over there. Reid cannot say “Big Balls” because it’s too vulgar for her adult audience. But she doesn’t mind that kids have access to books that talk about strap-on dildos, incest and rape. I also give my take on Rachel Maddow, who follows Reid’s firing with an eye-rolling reprimand of her bosses for doing such a “racist” act of letting go a non-white person from prime time. [Correction: in the video/podcast, after Maddow speaks, I say that she’s referring to Maddow being fired. I meant Joy Reid being fired.]
The lesson of King Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible is a good lesson for kings and leaders. His story is one of judgment when one doesn’t put God first. President Trump seems to not want to forget this. God is given the glory at Trump’s first cabinet meeting as Scott Turner, the Secretary of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, opens up with a prayer.
Finally, I speak with Paul Martino, entrepreneur, co-founder of Bullpen Capital and political activist. We talk about his Sundance Film Festival debut this year as the documentary “Bucks County, USA” airs in front of a very liberal audience. He shares the reaction and fills us in on how this doc-series came about.
